Chances are, you’ve had some questions regarding the medication you’re taking, or considering taking. Maybe you’ve had a question about the pharmacy itself or the services they offer. Well, today we’re answering your common pharmacy questions. Ask the pharmacist!
Common Pharmacy Questions
What is the best way to store my medications?
Believe it or not, the medicine cabinet in the bathroom may NOT be the best place to store your medications. Moisture and temperature may affect the stability of the medication, affecting how long it lasts. It is best to store prescriptions at room temperature in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight or heat.
What should I do if I have a bad reaction to my medication?
If the reaction seems serious (such as swelling, wheezing, chest tightness, etc.) then call 911. However, if your reaction seems less threatening, call your pharmacist. You can usually find their number printed on your prescription bottle.
Are generic medicines as good as the brand name ones?
The Texas State Board of Pharmacy requires generic medications substituted for the brand must be listed as equivalent in the FDA’s “Orange Book.” The generic medication must contain the same quantity of medication, as well as achieve the same blood levels, producing the same result as what the brand name medication would.
Is my insurance co-pay the same at all pharmacies?
The co-pay for each prescription is determined within the contract and is the same, no matter what pharmacy you go to.
Can I transfer my prescription from another pharmacy to Medical Center Pharmacy?
Yes! Our pharmacists will call and transfer the prescription after you give us the name of the pharmacy that last filled your prescription as well as the last name and prescription number associated with the account. After the transfer, you can pick up you prescription within two hours.
